Dear Parents/Guardians;

In the last two weeks we have been celebrating Literacy and Numeracy week. For Numeracy students had 2 incursions, World of Maths and Professor Maths.

World of Maths:

There were seventeen large, colourful displays in each session, with corresponding worksheets for the students.

There were activities belonging to the strands of: number, space, measurement, chance and data and logical thinking and sequencing.

All activities meet the national curriculum requirements.

The instructions and questions on the displays made each session a guided discovery lesson, where the students solved a variety of problems, discovered number patterns, identified geometric properties, thought logically and applied mathematics to the physical world.

By giving students this experience, they had an opportunity to acquire a variety of different skills and strategies needed for problem solving.

Specific Values

Professor Maths:

Exciting and stimulating Maths Activities were set up around the room for students to explore.

After a motivating introduction from the presenter, students explored each Activity in their groups and at their own pace. Working together, they solved each mathematical problem whilst having fun.

Meanwhile the presenter moved around the room to each group guiding and encouraging students. To finish a comprehensive wind-up of the activities was given which included student discussion on what they have learnt.

It is always great fun having Professor Maths at our school. We look forward to seeing you next year.

Lastly I would like to wish everyone a very safe holiday break and Eid Mubarek to all.

Kind Regards,
Ms Nesrin Gocmen
